Grayslake Central High School in Grayslake, IL, is proud to announce the appointment of Brent Pitt as the new Head Varsity Football Coach. A dedicated fixture in the Rams community for over two decades, Pitt brings extensive experience in athlete development, program building, and community engagement to the football program.

Pitt has served Grayslake Central for 23 years as a Life Fitness teacher, Strength and Conditioning Coordinator, and coach for both football and track. His deep institutional knowledge and expertise in physical and mental development make him uniquely qualified to lead the Rams into a new era.

Dave Shafron, Athletic Director at Grayslake Central, stated that Pitt emerged as the clear choice during a rigorous hiring process.

“Coach Pitt earned this position from a competitive group of candidates, said Shafron. What set him apart was not just his successful tenure at Grayslake Central, but the evidence of his ability to transform cultures, develop athletes, and build a highly skilled team of assistant coaches.”

Coach Pitt embodies a “Whole Athlete” philosophy that prioritizes the mind, body, and academics. His goal is to develop young men of character who are deeply connected to their school and community. To achieve this, Pitt plans to implement a comprehensive leadership plan, including a “Big Brother/Little Brother” mentorship program and a student-led leadership committee spanning freshmen through seniors.

“I’m honored to become the Head Football Coach at Grayslake Central,” said Pitt. “Having spent 23 years in this program as a coach, teacher, and mentor, I’ve seen firsthand the dedication of our students, staff, and community. I’m excited to lead our football program, build on that foundation, and create an environment where players feel valued, challenged, and proud to wear the Ram jersey.”

Community Connection and proven success, Pitt envisions a program deeply intertwined with the Grayslake Community.  His strategic plan includes a formal partnership with the Colts Youth Program, where current high school players will assist with game-day support and youth mentorship. This collaboration aims to ensure a positive matriculation from youth to high school football.

Regarding his outlook on team culture, Pitt emphasized accountability and connection.

“I want to create a culture that is built on accountability, effort, and relationships,” Pitt explained. “Our players will know that standards matter - how we practice, how we treat each other, and how we represent Grayslake Central. Ultimately, I want this to be a player-first culture where young men develop confidence, leadership, and character. When they leave this program, they should be stronger athletes, better teammates, and better people.”

Pitt brings a demonstrated history of successful program building. As Head Track and Field Coach for the past 23 years, he transformed a team that began with just 16 athletes into a program that is consistently producing all-state finishers and team championship performances, most notably with a 3rd place finish at the 2024 IHSA 3A Championship and the 2025 Sectional Championship.

On the sidelines, Pitt is known for providing players with a challenging yet supportive environment. He is committed to assembling a diverse coaching staff with expertise in all facets of the game to ensure every student-athlete reaches their full potential.
